National Identity Fraud Awareness Week

October 10, 2014

We found this informative article about National Identity Fraud Awareness Week which runs next week.  It is timely for us as we have come across two Identity Theft cases in the last few weeks.  Face to face/over the counter transactions are rapidly diminishing with the increase of online access to loans and utilities, making it easier for fraudsters to simply tap in your stolen personal information.

Gone are the days where you had to front up to your bank manager, cap in hand, to request a loan face to face...  or turn up to the local register office to renew your car rego... and so on.

The most disturbing part about our customers' experience with Identity Theft was that is was perpetrated by a very close friend in one instance, and a close family member in the other.  I guess the lesson to be learned here is to guard your personal information closely, even from friends and family, destroy sensitive documents securely and check your credit file regularly (www.mycreditfile.com.au).   See the attached article for more hints and tips.
